Dear Ohioan,
From now until the tax filing deadline, we need volunteers to help
Ohio families keep more of their hard-earned money. The Earned Income
Tax Credit (EITC) allows those earning lower wages to receive a larger
tax refund. Unfortunately, twenty percent of the Ohioans who qualify
for EITC do not take advantage of the tax credit, either because they do
not know how or because they don’t know the program exists.
As Chair of the Ohio Coalition on the Earned Income Tax Credit, I’m
working to support Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) programs in
all 88 Ohio counties. These fun and easy programs train volunteers to
prepare simple tax returns for low-income, elderly, disabled and
non-English speaking Ohioans.
Anyone can volunteer. No tax accounting experience is required, only a desire to help others in need.
VITA volunteers participate in a free, short training session; in
class, online or through self-study. Along with volunteer greeters and
screeners, bi-lingual skills (Spanish) are especially needed. People
who get involved will gain marketable tax preparation skills and a great
addition to their résumés.
To volunteer – or for more information – contact your nearest County EITC Coalition by consulting the links below. Volunteering for VITA will help save Ohio families thousands of dollars at a time when many need it most.
Sincerely,
The Ohio Treasurer of State
