Warren Tribune Chronicle: Several local governments to share finances online

Howland, Liberty, Bazetta, Austintown and Milton townships and the Mathews and Youngstown school districts are the latest governments in Trumbull and Mahoning counties to partner with Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel's Office to place their finances online.

Mandel, a Republican, was in Youngstown on Wednesday to announce the partnerships with, a program his office launched in 2014 that puts all state spending information on the Internet. Earlier this year he put out a request to local governments and school districts to do the same.

"I believe the people of the Mahoning Valley have a right to know how their tax money is being spent. . . My vision is to create an army of citizen watchdogs who are empowered to hold public officials accountable," Mandel stated in a news release from his office.

In Trumbull County, Mathews is the second school district to partner with, and Howland, Liberty and Bazetta townships are the first townships in Trumbull County to partner with on the program.

In Mahoning County, Youngstown is the second school district to place its spending online, and Austintown and Milton townships are the fifth and sixth townships in Mahoning County to do the same.
