Chief Economist Dr. Lindsey Piegza will look at the pace of our economic recovery and what it means going forward for overall growth, interest rates and monetary policy. She will cover macro-economic trends in consumer behaviors and in the manufacturing sector, in addition to new Federal Reserve policy initiatives and potential economic effects of these changes. She will also examine economic growth in the U.S. as a whole and its effects on interest rates.

Dr. Lindsey Piegza is the Chief Economist for Stifel Fixed Income. She specializes in research and analysis of economic trends and activity, world economies, financial markets and fiscal policies.
Piegza joined Stifel in 2015 amid the merger with Sterne Agee where she was Chief Economist. Prior to her roles with Stifel and Sterne Agee, she was the Senior Economist for an investment bank for eight years in New York City.
In addition to more than 13 years of professional experience, Piegza has published academic papers in prestigious journals such as the Harvard Business Review and in textbooks from Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management.
Often quoted in the business press, Piegza is a regular guest on CNBC, Fox News, CNN and Bloomberg, as well as national radio and other business news outlets. She is also a highly sought after speaker across national and international forums.
Piegza is a member of the National Association for Business Economics (NABE) and American Economic Association (AEA). She holds a B.A. from Northwestern University in political science and a B.A. in economics with honors and distinction. She earned her Ph.D. in economics from the City University of New York. She is a native of Chicago and is based in Stifel’s downtown Chicago office.
This interactive session will focus on latest economic and financial trends influencing investment decisions for district treasurers. A school treasurer will lead the discussion with a fellow treasurer and other investment professionals on the panel. Real life experiences will offer practical solutions on investing district funds.
Learning Objectives: The session will follow the mission of CPIM by providing investment knowledge to the attendees., The discussion will provide an update on the current economic condition and provide insight on how to invest school district funds in today's interest rate environment. Key tenets will focus on how to mitigate investment risk while maximizing returns.
This course is designed to educate school district treasurers in the fundamentals of investing funds under the Ohio Revised Code. The course is structured to provide knowledge on how to build a successful investment program, regardless of the years in the school finance profession or amount/size of district funds available to invest.

Mr. Geistfeld joined the Upper Arlington City SD as Treasurer/Chief Financial Officer in November 2005. Prior to joining Upper Arlington, he was the Treasurer of the Olentangy Local SD in Delaware County. Mr. Geistfeld has served in public school districts since 2001 in various capacities. Before working for public schools, he worked in the private sector as a senior manager with the accounting firm, KPMG.
Mr. Geistfeld received a Master of Business Administration from Mount Vernon Nazarene University and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from The Ohio State University. He also is a certified public accountant.

Cheryl Schultz is a Vice President and Relationship Manager for Huntington Bank’s Government Banking Division. Eric is currently serving as Assistant Treasurer of the Cleveland Heights-University Heights City SD and has been a school business official since 2012. Walt Myers is the Director of Trust in the Ohio Treasurer’s Office and has 32 years of financial industry experience. Mr. Myers joined the Ohio Treasurer’s Office in 2014. In his position, Mr. Myers remit in the Ohio Treasurer’s Office includes: Collateral Operations, Trust Operations, Trust Custody and Compliance, and CD Programs.
Previously, Mr. Myers was a Managing Director at JPMorgan’s Corporate and Investment Bank. He held several positions through his tenure at JPMorgan including an expatriate assignment as Client Service head for Investor Service’s European, Middle East and Africa Client Service organization. Mrs. Lewis oversees the Legislative, Policy and Constituent Affairs Department which serves as the liaison between the Treasurer’s office and the General Assembly. The department also identifies, researches, and develops policy positions and initiatives affecting the Treasurer’s office. Prior to arriving at the Treasurer’s office, Lizz worked as a Policy Advisor for former Speaker of the House, William G. Batchelder. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Kent State University.
Attendees at this session will: review the existing procedures for participating in the county BOR process, including a school district’s rights to participate, and how these proceedings can affect school districts; learn how to properly spot cases that are worth participating in and defending; learn strategies for tracking recent sales and initiating increase complaints to increase the value of those sales that exceed the current Auditor’s valuation; learn how to work with legal counsel to adequately protect the district’s interests, take into account community pressures and considerations, and maximize a district’s tax revenue on an annual basis.
A school district treasurer is responsible for managing the district’s tax revenue. This session will provide school district treasurers with legal explanations of how to protect existing district tax revenue and strategies for identifying and pursuing additional tax revenue, at a low cost to the district

Mr. Cashell is a Managing Director in the Cincinnati, Ohio Municipal Finance office of RBC Capital Markets and manages Public Finance for Ohio.
Mr. Cashell joined RBC Capital Markets in 2002 after serving as Chief Operating Officer/Chief Information Officer for Cincinnati Public Schools. As COO/CIO, Mr. Cashell oversaw all non-instructional areas for the district. Prior to coming to Cincinnati, Mr. Cashell served for nine years in finance, policy and administrative positions in Delaware state government. His last position there was Associate Secretary of Education for Finance, Policy and Administrative Services. In the latter role, Mr. Cashell acted as the Chief Financial Officer for the State Department of Education.

Katie Kleinfelder has worked with municipal clientele since she began her career with Seasongood & Mayer 14 years ago. She was the first woman hired by the firm as a municipal investment banker while she completed her law degree. As a Director with RBC Capital Markets, she works with a broad array of general obligation and revenue credits in Ohio including school districts, universities and colleges, cities, villages, counties and townships. Her career has allowed her to gain expertise in all sectors of Ohio public finance, and she is the company’s expert on Ohio municipalities, specifically.
Katie personally analyzed and structured over $6 billion of short- and long-term financings. She has extensive experience financing and refinancing various revenue based funding programs, including various taxable and tax-exempt, fixed and variable rate structures. Over the past five years, Katie has served a diverse list of municipal clients as senior managing underwriter including the following selected clients: City of Cleveland, Cleveland State University, the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, the City of Kettering, the City of Lima, Denison University, Lakewood City School District, Middletown City School District, The Ohio State University, Northwest Local School District (Hamilton County), and Youngstown State University.
Katie works to tailor the ideal plan of issuance considering the timing of the transaction with the current market environment, the plan of repayment, and to limit the risk of the issuer. Katie is an organized leader; her legal background has served clients well. She offers a critical eye to the bond documentation, compliance, disclosure and overall financing structure.

Mr. Laskey is a Director in the Cincinnati, Ohio Municipal Finance office of RBC Capital Markets and has worked at RBC Capital Markets since July of 2006. Andrew has worked with hundreds of local governmental entities throughout Ohio on debt offerings including school districts, cities, counties, townships as well as the State of Ohio. Additionally, Andrew has presented at numerous conferences on a variety of topics related to municipal bond issues and the bond underwriting process.
Andrew currently serves on the Board of Trustees for the Ohio Municipal Advisory Council, a repository of statistical information relating to Ohio municipal issuers and their securities.
