OASBO Essentials of Financial Management & Administration
The Essentials of Financial Management and Administration seminar is a 2-day course in financial management and administration for those seeking their treasurer's license, assistant treasurers, other finance office staff, or those currently licensed treasurers/CFOs wanting a refresher. The course will provide comprehensive content in the areas of history and evolution of school districts, roles and relationships, governing laws and regulations, Board and negotiations, fund accounting, USAS coding, student activities and booster groups, purchasing, proper purpose, credit cards, and investments. The fee includes two days of training plus an OASBO Official Curriculum Guide/Manual.
Ohio Association of School Business Officials (OASBO)
This course will provide an overview on creating investment policies, administrative controls and cash forecasts. This information is critical when deciding how best to invest the funds of the district.Information will be included on the types of investments available along with ideas on establishing an investment outlook and strategy. Details will be provided on best practices for monitoring investments, rebalancing when needed, investment accounting and reporting results.

This course will provide attendees with an overview of a variety of methods for investing excess funds. There are specific investments permitted by Ohio law allowed for school districts. Understanding the various investment types available to school districts is critical for school treasurers.
Ryan is a Managing Principal and Portfolio Manager at RedTree Investment Group. He has over 20 years of investment experience in the fixed income markets. Specifically, over the past 13 years, Ryan has been assisting public entities and other agencies with their fixed income investment needs. At RedTree, he is responsible for overseeing the firm’s investment process along with communication of the unique investment strategies for the firm’s clients.
Ryan obtained his undergraduate degree in Accounting from the University of Kentucky and his MBA in Finance from Xavier University. He has received the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and is a current member of the CFA Institute. Ryan served as the Past President and Trustee for the CFA Society of Cincinnati. He is a current Board Member for Junior Achievement of Greater Cincinnati.
