Course Details: How to: Building a Successful Investment Program
Target Audiences: School Districts
Participants will be able to learn the ins and outs of a successful investment program. Instructors and panelists will walk participants through the entire investment process, including:
-Developing an investment policy: Participants will learn both how to write investment policies from scratch and update an existing policy, including all pieces of an investment policy and where to report updates.
-Developing an investment strategy: We will help walk the participants through many investment strategy questions, including evaluating common economic indicators and evaluating the cash flows of their District.
-Determining service providers: We will educate participants on the differences and responsibilities of service providers including bankers, brokers, investment advisors, and custodians.
-Execution to the strategy: We will help participants determine what structure is best for them and their District, and how to best implement the strategy.
-Accounting: Participants will learn common accounting practices and methodologies for investment accounting.
-Reporting: Participants will be shown examples of common reporting practices, both internal and external facing reports.
Jason Click holds a B.S. in Business/Finance from The Ohio State University, Fisher College of Business and has obtained his Certified Financial Planner™ certification. He has extensive investment experience and brings over 18 years of industry experience to his position. He has served in various management roles and financial advisory capacities throughout his career, and is currently a member of the firm’s executive management team. As well as being an instructor for State Treasurer’s CPIM training, State Auditor’s training, and various educational seminars, Jason is also a published contributor to industry publications.
Jason Headings holds a B.S. in Marketing and a B.S. in Finance from Miami University, Richard T. Farmer School of Business and is a Chartered Market Technician (CMT). He has over 12 years of investment experience. As Portfolio Manager of the Meeder Money Market Fund, he has been recognized with the Money Fund Intelligence Award by Crane Data in 2012 and 2013 and the “Top Manager Award” from iMoneyNet in 2011 and 2014. Each of those years the Fund ranked highest in the United States amongst all prime retail money market funds. He is an instructor at various educational seminars.
