A district’s financial plan is the road map towards achieving its goals and ensuring optimal return on stakeholder’s investment. This session will discuss the essentials of a good financial plan, who benefits, how to use the plan, and how to communicate the plan. And worth mentioning is that a good financial plan remains essential no matter the current economic, health or political environment.  In fact, now is the time this type of planning is more essential than ever.

This course will provide attendees an overview of why a solid financial plan for their district is so critical, especially given current economic conditions and uncertainties.  Starting first with understanding your students and community, who you are serving and what’s important.  Next determining what your district’s goals are for serving your students – academic achievement, staffing ratios, support services, student safety, etc. Then assessing resources, current and/or needed, to determine feasibility of meeting the district’s collective goals.  And finally, communicating, creating understanding, and garnering support for the plan. 

This session will increase the attendee’s understanding of what to consider when developing a financial plan for their school district.  Understanding the collective goals of the district, but also having a sound understanding of available resources and necessary expenditure levels to meet those goals is critical.  This will determine the feasibility of the district’s financial plan and meeting operational goals
