Target Audiences: School Districts
This course will cover an overview of…
Parent organizations can provide invaluable support to districts. But their leaders often don’t understand the legal parameters that affect their work. And when things go wrong, it is heartache for everyone. The Ohio Attorney General’s Charitable Law Section has developed some new tools that may help school districts guide these groups away from trouble. In addition to the new tools, the webinar will also include a discussion of the most common challenges the office sees in school-related organizations.
The course will provide an overview of the various legal obligations leaders of all charities have and how that translates to school-affiliated organizations. The presentation will discuss the most common challenges that arise in these organizations and how districts can respond. Additionally, resources will be shared to help school officials navigate these situations.
Statement of Accreditation Rationale: Districts and their students benefit from the work of parent-run charities, but challenges affecting the district can arise over the improper governance of these groups. District officials need to understand the legal landscape all charities must comply with, as well as the resources available to assist both the charities and the district.
