Brooklyn City School District Joins OhioCheckbook.gov

COLUMBUS – Ohio Treasurer Robert Sprague today announced that the Brooklyn City School District has joined OhioCheckbook.gov.

“Fiscal transparency drives responsible government spending,” said Sprague. “The Ohio Checkbook platform is a powerful tool to inform taxpayers about the important decisions being made in their local community. We’re proud to partner with the Brooklyn City School District and assist them in providing residents with a closer look at how tax dollars are being spent.”

The Brooklyn City School District is the 27th public entity in Cuyahoga County to join OhioCheckbook.gov. The county's online checkbook includes nearly 49,000 individual transactions representing over $86 million in spending from July 2019 through June 2022.

"The Board of Education appreciates the support we receive from the residents of Brooklyn,” said Brooklyn City School District Board of Education President Bonnie Bartczak. “We take our fiduciary responsibility seriously and would like the community to continue to have confidence in our decisions. The Ohio Checkbook provides easy and user-friendly access on how we are spending their tax dollars."

OhioCheckbook.gov was launched in June 2020. The transparency website combined OhioCheckbook.com (previously administered by the Treasurer’s office) and Ohio’s Interactive Budget (previously operated by the Office of Budget and Management) to create a single, one-stop resource for taxpayers to learn more about spending at the state and local government levels.

By streamlining website administration, eliminating duplication, and reducing overall operating costs, OhioCheckbook.gov will keep government transparency at taxpayers’ fingertips for years to come.
