Perry County Joins OhioCheckbook.com

Ohio Treasurer Robert Sprague today announced that Perry County has joined OhioCheckbook.com

“We are excited to partner with Perry County on this important effort to increase transparency and accountability through the Ohio Checkbook,” said Treasurer Sprague. “When people can see what their government is doing, they take a greater interest in the decisions that have a lasting impact on their communities.”

Perry County’s online checkbook includes over 75,000 individual transactions that represent more than $323.8 million in spending from 2016 through 2018.

“We all agree on the importance of protecting tax dollars and increasing government accountability,” said House Speaker Larry Householder (R-Glenford). “It’s great to see Perry County joining the growing list of communities across Ohio who are increasing government transparency with Ohio Checkbook. County Commissioners James O’Brien, Ben Carpenter and Scott Owen, Auditor Drew Cannon and Treasurer Melissa Walters are to be commended for their leadership in helping make this a reality.”

"As the county auditor I am proud to implement the Ohio Checkbook program. It is important the people of Perry County know how their tax dollars are being spent,” said Drew Cannon, Perry County Auditor. “This newly adopted tool will provide improved accessibility and extensive detail so citizens can have transparency into county expenditures. We work hard to spend the money entrusted to us wisely and with careful consideration. This digital resource is certain to reflect the county's high level of fiscal responsibility and transparency."

Launched in 2014, OhioCheckbook.com became the first resource aiming to make all state spending information available online. There are currently more than 1,100 local government entities on the Ohio Checkbook, with more than 45 joining since January.

Since its launch, OhioCheckbook.com has garnered the interest of those hoping to learn more about how Ohio’s tax dollars are spent. As of August 2019, there have been more than 1.2 million searches on the site, and the Treasurer’s office continues working with local governments and constituents to leverage the site’s capabilities.
