Target Audiences: School Districts
This course will cover an overview of the new school funding formula and provide updates to school districts on implementation of the formula. The presentation will also speak to spending and reporting requirements.
The course will discuss the changes in the funding formula, including the following:
a.
Funding students where they are educated rather than where they live.
b.
Implementation of a new variable base cost methodology.
c.
Revision to the methodology used to calculate the state and local share of the formula.
d.
How funds are restricted for specific subgroups and how EMIS data is used to make these calculations.
The school funding formula represents the largest source of revenue for many schools and districts across the state. Understanding the inputs used to calculate the funding is critical to ensure all schools receive the correct amount of funding. Without an understanding of this, schools may not receive the correct amount of state aid.
